Resolved Question: where should i get discovered if i want to become an actor?

i am planning on going to college to major in theatre but at the same time i want to do auditions in public theatres and perform in plays. but the problem is that i live in kentucky where there aren't many oppurtunities to get discovered. i mean theres a few public theatres here and there but they are spread out and i would have to travel alot. i was wondering if i would be better off going to a university outside of ky, maybe somewhere in ohio, or as far as new york. i just wouldn't want to waste my time here if i never get discovered. advice from any professionals that know a little about agents and where to look for them would be greatly appreciated....
