Resolved Question: Should i travel and visit him?

So i met this guy out one night in fl. We were suppose to go on a date but a family emergency occurred so we had to cancel. Then he moved back to Ohio and I back to Ct. Since then we have been texting and fb messaging each other. He even kinda asked me to visit (as in, he asked me when he was drunk, then never really brought it up again. I had to ask him he did want me to come, and he said yes he would love it). Then he asked me to visit him in michigan but that is to far out of my way. And when i ask him to visit he says when he has a chance he will. So i don't know if it is right for me to initiate the visit first, without looking desperate.
